A depiction of the Generative and Destructive Cycles of the 5 Seasons

As Winter comes to an end and the cold snow gives way to vibrant, budding flowers the cycle of the 5 Seasons begins again with Wood energy. However building up certain energies need not and should not be contained to only their season.

The 5 Seasons constantly interact within our bodies. Both an over-accumulation as well as a deficiency of one type of energy can lead to problems with the related organs. In cases like this the problem can be remedied by strengthening energies that diminish the power of overactive organs or energies that can support a failing organ.

If you have overactive wood energy energy you can decrease it by building up your metal energy. Similarly if your wood energy is lacking you can boost it both by doing both wood and water movements.

The weakening cycle, known as the Destructive Cycle, follows a different order to the strengthening cycle, the Generative Cycle, which we have been discussing so far. The Destructive Cycle, which will be discussed further in future posts, follows the following order:

Wood, Earth, Water, Fire, and Metal.

In this case we would build up our Metal energy by practicing sitting breathing meditation hoping to diminish the overactive Wood energy. As you can see the 5 Seasons do not exist independently from each other and are all integral in maintaining a strong, well regulated body. These are just the basics of the 5 Seasons, even in relation to one’s bodily energies, but even with just these basics one should be able to understand the importance of building up all parts of their body.
